You can dial is some higher frequency and higher pitched tones with the new XO bass micro synth. There is more resonance and a little more top end available on the XO BMS.
The XO is true-bypass, 9v (not daisy chain-able), and from the factory tends to be a bit hot and distort on the lowest notes (with bass's at least) and the 'guitar' slider all the way up is well over unity- Therefor it is necessary to adjust the trimpot inside the case, EHX should have made it more easily accessible like the older ones.

The Macro's sound fatter- I've A/B'd the two, and the general consensus on talkbass from others who have owned both of them is the the older ones sound a little bit better.
